Why Place Any Importance On Web Analytics

If you have developed your website just for the sake of it, you may not find web analytics any useful to you. However, if you have aspirations to do well with your website, in terms of business and popularity; web analytics would mean a lot to you. In order to achieve your website related goals, which may be sales or any other kind of internet marketing, you will need to attract traffic to your website. You would definitely want to know how much traffic your website pulls every day, which of your web pages are doing how well, and so on. In fact, such information is very important for you to be able to sustain in the internet marketing business.

So, how do you analyze the progress of your website? There has to be a way that can tell you which of your pages are doing well, and which are not. One way to do it is to read through the record log generated by your server, and find out how many people have visited your website, and which of your pages were visited the most. However, it can be a very time taking process to read through a log file that is populated with too many records. Furthermore, you will find it tough to draw any results out of so many records in the log. Web analytical tools can therefore be a very good option in such situations. All the information in the log file is scanned, and the out put is presented in a very understandable format. You could also view the output in the form of graphs and bars.

Web analysis is important to understand the current progress of your website. For instance, it lets you know about the daily amount of traffic that flows to your website. Knowing the daily average number of people visiting your website, you could therefore gauge the business prospects of your website. With web analytic tools, you can even discover the source of your traffic. In other words, you could come know if the traffic is coming through search engines, other websites, or direct. Most of your traffic should flow from search engines. In case you have a low traffic flow coming from search engines, your over all traffic flow is likely to be low as well. This is because, most people use search engines to visit websites.

You will also discover the hot pages of your website, and the pages that are not doing too well. You can then place your business ads on the hot pages, and work hard on your weak pages.

The information available is so in depth that you could even discover the keywords searched by the users to reach your website. This could be very useful information to you, for you can use the in-demand keywords in your content.

Also, the pages that most of your users exit from can also be known. You could find out the reasons for such behavior of visitors on these pages, and improve them accordingly.

It is therefore very evident that web analysis plays a very critical role in internet marketing, or specifically in promoting your website.
