You look younger except for that bald patch appearing on your head HAHA. Anyway I would like to know the best way to build a list of prospects and how often should I communicate with them?

It’s shocking that you send out to 9000 on only about 30 people registered! One should think that if people can be able to get help for free that they’d jump at the opportunity but clearly not….

    The Webinar:
Do you split test your follow up emails in Aweber. I know you can split test the broadcasts but how do you go about split testing your follow up emails?

Do you already start selling in the first email or do you just keep it personal and informative?

    hi.
i did register, but i must have misunderstood, i thought that the thing said that i had to be approved “by a moderator”, and i assumed that i would get a confirmation email.

    no worries.
i will go over and sort it all out.

us something we might not have heard about the
    subject already (like surprise us).

Thanks for always sharing. I wish I was one of those lucky enough to mentor under you, maybe next year :)

I would like to know how to get people onto my list, I have several lists but I find it difficult to get people to join my newsletter, what am I doing wrong, what can I do to improve.

I am one of those South Africans that needs to pull my head out of the sand and register on the affiliate support site… will do it now!

I did not think it was necessary to post a link, since you’ve all received an email from Justin with the URL and the address was mentioned in the video too.

Just for reference, I’ll include the link below:

I will address your question in detail on the webinar because there is a major flaw in what you just said with regards to getting better results with article marketing… but more on that in the webinar.

As for you being to rough for the forum, I doubt is Chris is from Woster and those okes can get woes (or is that voes) themselves

Currently I am getting good results as in traffic and sales using article marketing is what I meant. I have only used email lists in IM but feels the market is a bit flooded in that niche.

I don’t think offering “free” stuff on optin page cut it anymore but if there is better ways to use this method it would be nice to know.

Wanting to use email marketing on other niches apart from IM so i am sure will have success there.

Interesting even after this video nobody (yet) has gone and signed up. Or maybe they are waiting for moderator to activate their accounts.

Interesting that over 1000 people apply for Justins Upstart Mentorship Program, and yet nobody (just about) wants to get involved in the forums. Wake up people!…

    As for email marketing webinar:
    1. What are your thoughts on spam mail. I hate the stuff, as we all do, but I have to admit that I agree with the spammers, that in SA it does work. I have actually responded and purchased from SA companies after being contacted through spam emails. My feeling is this may be a mindset of South Africans, as they spend more time in their emails than browsing the net…
    2. How often should you communicate with you list via autoresponder, and how often should you send once off mails in between?
    3. How big is your list? I hate it when people ask that question, because it not the size that counts but the quality (cough, cough). But lets talk a few numbers as guidelines.
    4. Cross marketing to a list, when to do it? If I have a list interested in rugby, I send them rugby stuff only, but one day I may want to drop them a mail about biltong (kind or related). When to do it, and when not to…

    Looking forward to the webinar!

Split testing within aWeber, page creation, setup and links to blog. I have played around with split testing via a WebForm with 2 letters, how to check and test it all pulls in correctly.

Thanks to Chris for the forum, much appreciated. Look forward to the webinar, always informative and enjoyable.

Come on South Africa wake up and join this great community, this is what is needed. No one go it alone, great empires are not built with one person. Take Richard Branson he is the figure head of the Virgin groups but he has great support from his team. Same with the Secret read the book its not just one authors opinions its loads.

As me I busy trying to build a list and would like to know the differnt steps that can be used to build a list.

Thanks Justin for trying to get South Africa onboard.

One of the reasons why I am not joining the forum is that I think the market in SA is just too small to be sharing what I know, and maybe your tactic is to get people like me to post and share so that you can learn from people like from me (which I don’t agree with). I think you should do your own ground work to learn for yourself.

  18. Ash said,

@ Justin, I would like to know more about list swapping, is it worth it and if so, what are some of the best ways to do it.

@ Chris, If you not from South Africa, so can you still be a part of the forum?

@ Trucker77, don’t be an ass dude, you’ll learn far more from JH than JH will learn from you.

  19. Janie Engels said,

    Wrote on September 9, 2009 @ 12:40 pm

The forum is a great idea, but like trucker7 said, I am a little scared of communicating on a forum because in SA people like to steal your ideas.

  20. John Gore said,

    Wrote on September 9, 2009 @ 12:43 pm

@Trucker77 I don’t know who you are, but thank you for saying what I think may of the other “non-forum-joiners” are thinking.

But think of it this way, if nobody teaches, then nobody can learn.

If nobody joins the forum, and posts valuable info, then who can learn from it if its empty?

Nobody is asking you to share EVERYTHING you know, or to share ANY your trade secrets.

Come on, don’t be a typical South African.

Go look at ANY of the massively successful international IM guys. Do you see ANY of them making it by going alone? No.

They understand that this business is all about partnership, and working with others. The more you give, the more you will receive, fact.

That said, you don’t HAVE TO partner or JV with anyone if you don’t want to. Just join the forum, and talk about things that will not involve giving your trade secrets away.

    Just do it!

  21. John Gore said,

    Wrote on September 9, 2009 @ 12:48 pm

@Janie: I totally agree with you there. I have personal experience of exactly that (and it was not in IM).

South Africa like to sponge. They like to take, without giving anything back.

Think about this: You are moaning about how others steal your ideas, but lets turn the tables. Just think about what this website has given to you. How much have you learnt here? …Now, how much have you given in return?

Conclusion: you yourself are right now acting just like those people you hate for “stealing” ideas.

As I said above, you are not expected to share your niche, or your trade secrets. it would be stupid of you to do that! Im sure you have questions you would like answered…

start with questions, you have nothing to loose.

    Just do it!

  22. Justin Harrison said,

    Wrote on September 9, 2009 @ 1:05 pm

One of the huge successes with the internet marketing upstart group is that we have a simple philosophy behind our closed door all books open policy, if you copy anyone else you’re out of the group, if you want to work in the same market as someone else then you have to JV with them.

Naturally this would be impossible to enforce on the affiliate support forum, but I really do believe that the big wheel in the sky always turns. I have been ripped off copied and plagiarised more than anyone I know (not just locally but abroad), and you know what… copy cats never last because the are opportunists that are not prepared to work for their own authenticity.

The only people that need to stand in fear of sharing are those that are not authentic and genuine about serving their market. I have great customers, not only because I place their needs first, but also because I own that relationship which is worth far more than some little clever marketing “trick”

Bottom line people, tricks and strategies don’t make a business, owning the relationship does, so if you own the relationship with your market you can share to your hearts content and nobody can ever duplicate that part of the equation EVER.

Ok we all know about the spongers, but that is life.

Last night I listened for 2 and half hours a free webinar about Natural leverage from Andy Jenkins and Dan Thies ex Stompernet Guys. Brillant although very quick and Yes they did want to make a sale at the end but get this you had to apply as the cost was $10,000 and the course they are offering is only open to those already earning 6 figures.(That’s me out as I’m a newbie)

My point is some of the things they mentioned in the webinar was new to me and something I am taking onboard such as web testing they didn’t tell step by step details but gave lists on tools etc.(So that is where your own research comes in)

Another thing is why are you concerned with just the SA market, the internet is global everything you learn you can use on a global market. Most purchases of online products, information etc will come from USA, UK and Australia. Unless you are selling specific things to an SA market. Then like John says you are not giving your niche details away.

We can all be given the same information but we comprehend it differently some will think its brillant and achieve with that information while others will think its Kak(SA word) and should have no place on the market.

    @ Chris

Didn’t mean the link for me but for general use. I see you need to first approve accounts and not so sure if that is a good idea. On most of the largest IM forums in the world you approved by email and this might chase people.

As a suggestion why don’t you as the owner populate the forum a bit as it is rather empty and i see there is only 34 members which is not much.

Personally the name don’t work for me as it is looks like it is affiliate linked and honestly affiliate marketing sucks in SA. I mean I get mostly R500 for one CB product I sell and get paid

    @ John Gory
Dont be so hard on tucker as what he say is true. I use one of the biggest IM forums in the USA and i had many cases when some (not all) SA guys when they findout you from SA ask you ? like How to do this, What is the best for this and the list goes on and on.

@ Ash if this is the tipycal comments that is going to be on the forum then i am not interested as that poster did have a valid point. and remember no one man is an island.

“Trucker77, don’t be an ass dude, you’ll learn far more from JH than JH will learn from you.”Trucker77, don’t be an ass dude, you’ll learn far more from JH than JH will learn from you.

@ Justin I thinks it is time you add a link to your blog imforums.justinharrison.com (Sorry Chris nothing to do with you as there seems to be a lot of movement here)

@ John Gory By actaully buying from SA spammers is like throwing petrol on a fire as it is already getting out of control and teaching people the wrong thing

@Johan you are a pain th the butt, because you talk more than you read. Go READ again. nuf said!

I said I myself have had experiences with SA people stealing from me! I am not being hard on anyone, but if you are here to take info, and not willing to give back to the community, then you are doing EXACTLY the same thing that you are so scared that others are going to do to you… —get the point?—

That said, there is time to change, and the sooner you realize that, the sooner you will succeed.

For the record: I do not spam, or condone spamming. In fact I almost always call the guy up that spams me, and try help him to understand that what he is doing is damaging to his brand. The sad thing is though, the response I always get from SA spammers is: “its cheap, it works, so I do it” . Unfortunately its hard to argue that one.

“I mean I get mostly R500 for one CB product I sell and get paid” = doesnt make any sense to me. you seem to be trying to sell a ClickBank product to the SA market, and only making R500 a month, right? Well, maybe the product is not a good product for SA. Maybe it will do better at targeting USA market for eg. You can be a SA Internet Marketer and sell affiliate products to the USA if you want. That would be a great question to ask on the forum.

This is a blog, and not the place for this kind of debate. Forums are for debate, so just go sign up please, and get involved.

    Just do it!

This will be my final contribution to this blog and you and Justin and Chris can stick your blogs, forum etc up your asses as your reply to me is the typical South African shit and that is why nobody cares a shit about SA and want to have nothing to do with us because of guys like you with comments like you just made.

So I am pain so cheers asshole and JH i will unsubscribe from your list as i dont need this shit.

Now to conclude John Gore as you seem to know nothing about IM

    1) By you buying from spammer means you approve of it and i wouldn’t be surprise if some of the shit i get in my mailbox come from you

    2) When i said i make R500 for selling 1 CB product i meant $50 per sale and not per month you need to learn to read. So what i meant is doing aff marketing in SA sucks not with CB but with SA aff programs and you make more money overseas

As for me wanting to debate here is my chose but as for the rest of the stuff you say you just talk plain shit and the way you contribute is of no use to anybody.

My mamma always tough me this “If you cant say something good about somebody then shutup”

So much for wanting to contribute. Seems assholes like you John and Ash is the kind of user they need to ban from this new forum as your topical SA KAK attitude wont cut it with me and with the rest of the world

Dude, you are rubbing everyone up the wrong way now.

Maybe if you tell us what it is you want, then we can try our level best to help you. But this is not going to get anywhere…

Lets get back to the point at hand here:

“But think of it this way, if nobody teaches, then nobody can learn.” — John

“If nobody joins the forum, and posts valuable info, then who can learn from it if its empty?” — John

@Joahn You are complaining that the forum is empty, why not join the forum and share a bit? Ask a few questions. Help to full it with valuable info. Its not a book that is to be read, its interactive. It needs members, and the info will come. There is already valuable info on there, and lots more to come, so get involved…

Ok so i rubbed you the wrong way by correcting you that telling you to buy from spammer is wrong and you should stop doing that and do teach it. Well the problems is some other new sa site owner passes by here and it get worse. Spam is Spam and we need to treat it that way.

I make a suggestion to Chris to make the forum look busy and that way it will attract visitors. Now Chris pleeeeeaaaaaaaaase dont take this wrong. It is like visiting a grave yard man. Put in a rock group there and even the bones will come alive.

A SUGGESTION NOT A COMPLAINT. ALLOW ME TO SPAM THAT SITE AND WE WILL GET IT GOING NOT WITH RUBBISH BUT THEN I MIGHT AS WELL REGISTER MY OWN FORUM AS IT IS NOT MY FORUM. I AM NOT EVEN APPROVED THERE YET AND HAVE JOINED ALREADY BUT PROBLEM WITH THE APPROVAL AS THE SITE IS NEW SO THIS CAN STOP GROWTH. NOT COMPLAINING A SUGGESTION SHIT DONT YOU GET IT

Did you know it is a pain to hold down the shift key when you type. Where is the bladey caps lock key on this laptop?

OK GOT THE CAPS LOCK – JOHN GORY I COMMENTED ON THE SUBJECT AT HAND AND THEN YOU AND ASH CAME WITH YOU OFF TOPIC CRAP. I TOLD JUSTIN WHAT I WANT OR DIDN’T YOU READ (MY HUSBAND CALM DOWN OR YOU WILL GET HEART ATTACK)

Ok i will love but. NO BUTS ok

Do you know what stuff i like sharing?

2 days ago I worked out a method to increase my traffic. Here is the stats below

    05 Sep 2009 3 3 3 14.06 KB
    06 Sep 2009 3 3 20 304.55 KB
    07 Sep 2009 6 8 8 43.92 KB
    08 Sep 2009 55 899 1165 7.13 MB

The traffic has been like that before for the last 3 month and also I wasn’t using this site. Now my idea works and i use twitter no spamming methods and real targeted traffic and if you look a the bandwidth used they reading my content and the readers are for free. That is the kinda stuff i share. Pretty impressive i think that is why i asked Justin how to get subscriptions from Twitter. No article marketing, no ppc, no forum posting, no blog posting

SO THAT IS WHAT I CALL CONTRIBUTING AND CONTRIBUTING IS NOT CALLING PEOPLE ASSES AND A PAIN ok vrou I am finish now now COME HERE NOW

    Good luck in your attitude

    For incase you dint know

    08 Sep 2009…55…899…1165…7.13 MB

    55 = daily visit
    899 = pages visit
1165 = hits on site or cpu requists
7.13 MB = bandwidth consumed that day

Robots is not included so basically not bad as I only have 20 pages of content on the site. So basically all 55 visitors read +- 16 pages. so imagine if I double what I did.

If anybody claims those 1165 hits means anything then tell them they talk nonsense as a page with 50 pics on will count as 50 hits

I suppose you knew that already John Gore. But others might not so that don’t give you the right to call me a pain.

    Hey all,

I’m pretty new to the IM space and this is one of the first times that I’m commenting on a VLOG so here goes…

I watched the VLOG from the office this morning and yes, I do agree South Africans are very secretive and a little clandestine when it comes to what they do and how they do it – basically if you have a good idea that’s working for you then screw the other OKE, he can go and find his own thing. I do feel that it comes from where we live, now I don’t mean that SA is a KAK place but if you live in a hectic city like Joey’s or Cape Town or Durbs you pretty much live with this sort of attitude in your daily lives – I mean you just can’t trust anyone…Maybe it’s the crime or the fact that we South Africans like focusing on negative, bad news headline stuff and helping another OKE that isn’t your china just can’t be right. But the law of reciprocity is eternal the more you give the more you shall receive – HALELUYA… enuffff said about that.

On the subject of the email marketing webinar, and because I’m a Newbie, please can you make some sort of reference to – Step 1…Step 2…Step 3…Step 4….Step 5 because to be perfectly honest I’ve never done email marketing and have no clue where to even start. Setting sail on the right course from the beginning will be a great help.

Keep up the awesome work Mr Harrison…

@Heath Thanks for your comments, very refreshing and welcome!

I can’t agree with you more, there is a mindset here in SA, as you described. It could exist for any number of reasons, who knows (prob bunch of things). But its there to see, and it effect us all just about every day.

The trick is to see beyond all that, stay positive, and move on.

I look forward to seeing you in the forum too.

    Well after all of the above it’s difficult to get back to the main topic here, but these are the things I’d like to learn about email marketing;

    1. How can it help me to build a list?
    2. How would I go about building a list from email marketing?

Justin I think you need to consider installing threaded comments, and also maybe moderating some of the less desirable messages. (use it don’t use it).

As for the webinar, I would like to see how you build a list outside of the internet marketing market?

Justin, how do you see the Protection of Personal Information Act affecting email marketers in SA?

Great vlog Justin, and I really love your personal philosophy of always being so open and sharing, you’re a shining example for all of us.

To all the other people here who are sometimes negative and get off topic, take the time to stop and think about what Justin is offering and doing here, it’s a great gift and we are very privileged to have him sharing with us.

Hope you all have a fantastic Friday.

@ Derrick, personally I think its long overdue and something that should have been addressed a long time ago. I have actually stopped consulting for a well known listed mobile operator because of their policy of buying, renting and sharing their customer information, which frankly they do not have the right to do, and despite my advice they continued to walk the same path.

I am as we speak uploading our latest podcast and I talk extensively about SPAM and what exactly constitutes spam, because many South African Business believe that because someone is listed online, or they bought a list or because the person is a customer they have the right to solicit them.

We are a bit behind on the consumer laws in SA which attracts a lot of rogue marketers (internet, call centres, direct mail) and honestly any legislation that deals with this is good in my eyes.

If I as a marketer and business can understand the concept of adding signifigant value to get people to engage me (not the other way round) why the hell should other business not do the same.

So, to start, I don't think of myself as an "Internet Marketer", at least not yet! So I'm excluded from all the verbal abuse!! (Jokes I was good and registered)

Some topics I would like in the email webinar are:

What is the norm to pay for a reliable, clean email bulk sender system?

If the stuff hits the fan on one of my email newsletters (black listing), who gets nailed, the email bulk sender (system) or my email address and even worse maybe my Domain.

What is the law in layman's terms – I thought it was "If you have a solid opt out simple option, and if you did not sell anybody anything, and that they knew who you were and you added value, that it is ok to send email."

Has anyone in South Africa been in court over SPAM?

The new Protection to Private Information bill seems to make this an invite only communication in the future – but who will police it?

What tools are used in the market?

That is about it for now, looking forward to the webinar.

    Cheers

    Malcolm
