Make Time for Training Your Help
Finding good help isn’t an easy task however once you’re lucky enough to find good people to help you build your business; it’s in your best interests to train them. Not making the time to train your new help will result in lost profits, lost time, and ultimately unhappiness on both sides. Here’s how to make time for training your help.
#1 Talk to your new help about how they learn best. Do they prefer to chat on the phone or does it help to have it in writing? If they’re local, does it make sense to get together to go over tasks and responsibilities? Regardless of the tasks or how the person learns best, it is always advised to have training documented. This will help when you’re unavailable to talk and your employee or contractor has a question.
#2 Schedule time for training. Even if you’re simply sending documentation on how to accomplish a task, it takes time to create these systems, templates, and documents. Scheduling the creation and delivery of training documents into your day will help to ensure that it gets done.
#3 Use your resources. If you’re training someone on how to use your customer service program to respond to customer inquiries, chances are the customer service program or software you use already has documentation on how to use the software. Incorporate that information into your training information to save time and make sure all bases are covered.
Depending on the task you’re training for, there may already be training documents available online. Many outsourcing sites offer training documentation that has already been prepared. Customize the training information to fit your needs and save time!
#4 Realize that for every hour you spend training you’re saving potentially hundreds of hours. It’s worth the time!
#5 Follow up. Training isn’t generally a one time thing. You train and you’re done. Instead, it’s better perceived as a process. New situations occur, new trainings will be necessary and the learning curve is different for everyone. Following up with your new hire a week, a month, or even several months later is the best way to ensure that the job is getting done completely and that both parties are happy and productive.
Hiring people to take care of vital tasks for your business success is the best way to grow your business and to enable yourself to focus on the tasks you excel in. Take the time to train them properly and completely and you and your business will reap the rewards.
