Thanks for this article Justin. Your readers can also an interesting thread on paypal that Chris M did on his blog, http://imod.co.za/2008/02/13/i-called-paypalcom-today-from-south-africa-and-asked-wasssup/
I’ve signed up with AlertPay, they’re great, but every so often Mastercard and Visa kick them out of the program and we can’t use them.
I liked your articles about MyGate too, it seems we’re in a bit of a pickle when it comes to finding a great solution for payment gateways being Seffricans.

Hi Justin,
Interesting topic that dont make sense as you can signup with Alert Pay and add you absa debit card or any debit card to it and get money transferred this way. Another way is to signup with 2 checkout and get a Payoneer debit card for free that you can use at any atm in the world including South Africa. At least with 2 checkout clients can choose to pay with paypal or 2 checkout.
Greetings
Johan

Hi Justin, Thanks for notification and getting this matter brought to the fore once again.
I have written to the four larger banks to no avail! A possible avenue is via Xoom.com (which I have not yet tested): If you have funds available to you in PayPal, the Xoom instructions are as follows:-
“If you choose to use Paypal, you’ll be prompted to sign-in to your Paypal account. Authorization for these funding sources reaches Xoom very quickly – usually it is within a few minutes and then your money transfer will be on it’s way.”
This is not the answer to a direct route, I agree with what you had to say on MoneyWeb, we should have a clean and clear cut banking route to follow – it does not matter where to lay the blame, how does this get resolved? How about an online petition!

Hi Justin,
Thank you for the tip off. We are currently in the process of setting up an international payment gateway for South Africans, so they can receive dollars. We hope to be up in the next 2 months – will let you know how we go.
Kind regards,
James Flower

Hi Jason
Thanks for the article found it very interesting. I find it extremely frustrating that I cannot get paid for work done through PayPal which pretty much closes the door to some great affiliate programs who use PayPal as the only payment method.

Hey Justin
Unfortunately chaps, it all comes to risk aversion and generally shrude business. Google, Yahoo, Microsoft all had to bend their products to fit the will of the Chinese Government in order to do business there. It was too a big a market to miss out in terms of potential revenue.
Unfortunately with Paypal, our market is not big enough neither lucrative enough for them to “bend” their products to fit us. They view us “Africans” as High Risk. Until the status qou changes, there is absolutely nothing we can do. Its like David & Goliath vs God. No Contest…
Hopefully our country makes the world hungry for our business. Thats about the only hope we have. Until then, we’ll have to find other innovative ways to achieve our goals.
Cherio,
Moosa

Hi Justin,
This story with PayPal SA continues for a few years now. However, how is it that some SA based companies with .co.za domains are able to hook-up with PayPal? Is it just a simple case of operating an overseas bank account?
Please advise,
Martin

Click2Sell offers Moneybookers as a payment method (Available to SA for sending and receiving money) if you want to use it for affiliate marketing. They offer up to 95% commissions and there is no limit to how many products you can promote. So, if you considered trying Clickbank but they only offered PayPal for payment, try Click2Sell http://Celestial.join.click2sell.eu. I have had fantastic results with this site
