Approaching a potential online joint venture partner can be intimidating. Here are a few Dos and Don'ts to get your joint venture partnership recruitment off on the right foot.
1. Don't have a negative attitude!
There's nothing that ruins a joint venture proposal more than going into it thinking, This is never going to work. You need to be positive and have the self belief that your joint venture will work at all costs.
2. Don't tell your joint venture partners what the benefit is for you!
Your potential joint venture partner doesn't care how much money you stand to make, or how the partnership will grow your business. Rather focus on telling your joint venture partners what's in it from them and their customers.
3. Don't sell, particularly on the first meeting or communication!
No one wants to be sold to, and jumping in with a heavy pitch is an instant turn-off. Rather tell your potential joint venture partner why you want to partner with them, and be sure to impress them with your knowledge of their business.
4. Don't expect an immediate answer!
You're excited about working out a joint venture partnership and that is understandable; however, you've had plenty of time to think about it and the idea is new to your partner so they will need time to mull it over.
Give your potential partner time to think about it, and make a date to check back in to see if they have any questions.
5. Don't be too rigid in your ideas or appreoach!
Going into a partnership with an It's my way or the highway mentality is a sure way to end a relationship before it starts.
Be prepared to negotiate everything, and remember that in the long run, a joint venture partnership will bring you increased profits, and more customers, so always be willing to negotiate.
